Winter 1944, Lithuania. The aristocrat Lecter, along with his wife and children, daughter Mischa and son Hannibal, are trying to hide from the approaching front in their hunting lodge. But after the air raid, the parents die and the children are left completely alone. Lithuanian "forest brothers" come across their house and eat Mischa. Hannibal, who managed to escape, is taken away by Soviet soldiers. Eight years have passed and now Hannibal is in an orphanage, which is located in his former castle. The boy is constantly subjected to humiliation and ridicule from both educators and students. Hannibal decides to escape to go to his uncle, who lives in France. But his uncle died and the guy is adopted by his widow Lady Murasaki.
